How Packaging Design and Custom Packaging Impact Your Product's Success?

Dreyfus, a contemporary American designer and pioneer of ergonomics, said: "If the product hinders human activities, the design will fail; if the product makes people feel safer, more comfortable, more effective and happier, the design will succeed." This is not only for product design, but also for product packaging design. Modern product design should pay more attention to the humanization of packaging design.

Product packaging has three functions:
① Protection function: On the surface, it is to protect the goods, but ultimately it is to protect people from harm. If the product is not packaged, it will bring great inconvenience to people during transportation or carrying, and even cause injuries to the user, so the packaging actually protects the user.
② Convenience function: It makes people convenient, including convenient use, storage and transportation, and sales. The reason why many packages are designed in square shape is to bring convenience to transportation and consumption, such as large-scale transportation.
③ Sales function: The sales function meets people's psychological needs and is also a display function. For example, through the special environment of the store, the effect of the product can be displayed. This requires the use of the beautification function of the packaging to show the characteristics of the product as much as possible.

For product packaging design, in order to highlight the characteristics of the product through packaging, and also to carry out targeted humanized packaging design, the following aspects are mainly considered:
1) Easy-to-identify logo:
The humanized product packaging design should have prominent and eye-catching identification logos, such as the product name, category, and origin information, so that consumers can understand the product through the packaging, rather than only by opening the packaging and seeing the product.

2) Easy-to-understand instructions and diagrams:
No matter what product it is, it needs to be simply explained through the packaging, so that consumers can master the use of the product as soon as possible. The appropriate use of diagrams, especially cartoon patterns, can appear very vivid.

3) Accurately judge the product packaging design by touching and stroking:
The humanized product packaging design should be able to take into account many human sensory factors, such as touch, taste, etc., rather than just vision and hearing. Therefore, when designing, we should highlight the actual feeling more, such as the cute shape, which brings great affinity to people; when choosing materials, we should choose some materials with good hand feel, such as using some wood appropriately, which can enhance the hand feel of product packaging, or do some surface treatment, such as some concave and convex process treatment, which can also give people a good feeling.

4) Cleverly deal with the problem of wrapping and revealing:
Generally, packaging is to wrap the product for easy transportation or carrying, but wrapping the product will hide many characteristics of the product, so in many packaging designs, special consideration is given to showing some parts of the product, such as using transparent materials for some parts, so as to achieve the purpose of showing the characteristics of the product. This can also allow consumers to understand the product more quickly.

For product packaging design, it has always been regarded as separate from the product. In fact, the two are an inseparable whole. Only by integrating the two, standing from the user's perspective, putting yourself in their shoes, and making full use of the humanized point of view, can we design a good packaging from the information and use of the packaging.
